High School Student Research Intern (HS SRI) Program
Applicant Guidelines
Applicants must be:.
- Currently enrolled as a sophomore or junior in a public or private school in the Tri-Cities area (Columbia-Burbank, Finley, Kennewick, Kiona-Benton City, Pasco or Richland School Districts) and interested in science, technology, engineering or mathematics.
- Sixteen years of age at the time the appointment begins (August 2012).
- Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher (from 9th grade to current standing).
- Taken a qualifying class as required by the Work Based Learning program at their high school and be enrolled in a Work Based Learning program.
- Willing to work three to four (3-4) hours every weekday, except PNNL holidays. Students involved in other activities that require a major time commitment should consider whether they will be able to fulfill the time requirements of an HS SRI appointment.
- Applicants must show a strong interest in science, technology, engineering or mathematics and have taken mathematics and science courses that will support the understanding of their research assignment.
- Applicants must have strong recommendations; illustrate a variety of interests outside their academic pursuits; demonstrate leadership abilities; demonstrate the ability to express self accurately and concisely; and show interest in pursuing academic degrees or careers in science, technology, engineering or mathematics.
